At Mizudo Academy we also teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
As a martial art, combative sport, and form of
self-defense, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on grappling, especially ground
fighting or a situation where you might be pinned to the ground. It was
derived from the Japanese martial art of Kodokan Judo in the early 20th
century, which was itself a recently-developed system (founded in 1882)
based on multiple schools of Japanese Jujutsu.
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Leverage and proper technique are skills a smaller,
weaker person can successfully employ to defend him or herself against
larger, stronger assailants. A BJJ practitioner learns to apply joint-locks
and chokeholds to ultimately defeat and or subdue the attacker.
At Mizudo, we teach Jiu Jitsu for both men and women looking to get in
shape, relieve stress, and learn realistic self-defense.
If you are interested in competing, we have a great competition team that
competes in both Gi and No-Gi tournaments as well as Mixed Martial Arts
(MMA) competitions.

Mizudo Academy stands apart from other schools by not only teaching the
physical and technical side of Jiu-Jitsu but also, through focused meditation
and breathing techniques, we teach students to strengthen and discipline
their minds and spirit, as well as their physical bodies.
Classes are taught by Professor Montise Peterson who has trained in Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu since 1995 and has been teaching Jiu-jitsu since 1997. Professor
Peterson has had the privilege of training with many of the elites in
the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world, such as: Professors Rickson and Relson
and Royce Gracie, Professor Caique, and Professor Luis “Limao” Heredia.
Professor Peterson received his Black belt from Professor Rigan Machado.
